Routine urine dip stick testing during pregnancy

Do you check urine dipsticks at each prenatal visit? If so what do you dip for? If not do you do it at any visit, certain times in pregnancy or never?

We are reassessing our protocol here at Gifford and would like to see what other NNEPQIN practices are doing?

At Central Maine Medical Center we have stopped doing routine urine dips at prenatal visits. If the SBP>=140 or DBP>=90 then the RN or MA will ask the patient for a urine specimen and do a dipstick.
